Orange County Government Social Worker III-Adult Services* in Hillsborough, North Carolina

*The Orange County Department of Social Services currently has an opening for a Social Worker III. * This position investigates allegations of violations and monitors the compliance of Adult Care Homes in accordance with State regulations N.C.G.S. 131D; evaluates reports received by the agency alleging abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of disabled adults as mandated by N.C.G.S. 108A and provides protective services when statutorily appropriate. This position provides services for adults where abuse, neglect and/or exploitation has occurred and these services include developing a plan of protection, case management, counseling, and working with county attorney to obtain necessary legal authority as needed. This position will represent the Department of Social Services in the guardianship process and provide oversight to adult wards and serves as the Director's designee for persons who have been adjudicated incompetent by the Clerk of Court. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Hours must be flexible to meet work demands. Requires rotating after hour's on-call responsibility.

Examples of Duties:

Responds to and investigates complaints alleging licensure violations by Adult Care Homes, interviews patients and staff and documents findings; reports findings to the Adult Care Licensure Section, testifies at hearings to provide evidence to support findings and regulatory violations.

Conducts on-site inspections of Adult Care Homes on at least a quarterly basis and determines compliance with State and Federal licensing requirements (i.e. monitors drug administration and management, resident and personal care services, food services, staffing patterns and qualifications, safety assurances, housekeeping, building maintenance, activities, management of personal funds, record keeping and written policies).

Reviews Adult Care Homes' accident/incident reports and determines if there are problem areas; conducts on site investigations when necessary.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to initiating Adult Protective Services evaluations, conducting a thorough evaluation, making a case decision, determining capacity to consent to services, obtaining authorizations and developing and mobilizing a plan of protection.

Provides Individual and Family Adjustment Services to clients not in need of protection

Conducts guardianship assessments and determines the need for guardianship services and scope and type of guardian needed. Represents the Department of Social Services in the guardianship process and provides case management to adult wards when appointed by the Clerk of Court.

Provides on call responsibilities on rotating schedule.

Provides back- up for all program areas in adult services as needed.

May provide services in other program areas as needed.

Supervision Assignments are generally provided by defining objectives, priorities and deadlines. Staffing and consultation provided for case decisions. Additional assistance is provided for unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.

Distinguishing Factors This classification is distinguished from the Social Worker II classification by the level of complexity, sensitivity and difficulty of case work interventions, authority for decision making, likelihood and consequence of error and the emergency or crisis nature of the service.

Minimum Requirements: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in social work or a related field and one year of social work experience or a Bachelor's degree in social work or a related field and two years social work experience.

Requires possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina.
